McKinley Morganfield – Muddy Waters

Muddy Waters The Definitive Collection Muddy Waters is credited with creating not only the Chicago Blues sound but the electric guitar sound which to this day defines modern rock music. It started in 1948 with a 78 single with “I Can’t Be Satisfied” and “I Feel Like Going Home” on the other. Although there were earlier recordings by Columbia Records that went unreleased it was Chess Records that released the singles and went on to own the Chicago Blues genre for years to come. This much is accurately documented in the movie Cadillac Records which I did an earlier blog on. Now I always thought Freddie King was the one who brought Chicago Blues to Britain but it appears that this credit must also be shared with Muddy Waters. Here are a few Muddy Waters CDs that I can recommend.

Muddy Waters has been cited as an influence to Keith Richards as well as giving the Rolling Stones the inspiration for their name and is listed as #11 in Rolling Stones list of 100 Greatest Guitarist of All Time. If you listen to this song I think you’ll agree the influence is clear.

Now for a nice overview of Muddy Waters just let the following widget of previews play through while you check out the rest of WorldofBlues.com.

Thank you Muddy Waters and all the great blues players that brought the blues into the 20th Century.
