Monkey Junk – 3rd Place Blues Foundation Awards

Hey Monkey Junk was just mentioned in the XM Radio Channel 74 – B.B. King Bluesville as one of the July 6th “Top 15 Picks to Click” for an awesome song “Pay the Cost”. I can’t find a video or preview of that song but while searching I did manage to find this great Monkey Junk video posted on youtube:

For Monkey Junk fans here is my previous post from when the news broke that Monkey Junk had won the 3rd Place Blues Foundation Awards in March 2009.

I’m lucky to live in Ottawa where the blues are kept alive by a great bunch of guys going by the name of Monkey Junk. Congratulations are in order too because Monkey Junk just came in 3rd out of 100 bands competing in the 25th International Blues Challenge! That 100 bands is just the tip of the iceberg too – I watched them compete for the right to represent the Ottawa Blues Society in a Canada wide competition held by the Toronto Blues society so I suspect its closer to 3rd our of 10,000 bands. Well deserved I assure you.

Presently Monkey Junk’s web presence is their myspace page at myspace.com/monkeyjunkottawa. There are some good quality tunes up here for you to check out including my personal favorite Monkey Junk tune “Tiger in Your Tank” written by McKinley Morganfield better known to you and I as Muddy Waters.

They also have this youtube video of Tiger in your tank that I hope you’ll enjoy.

Monkey Junk is
TONY D – guitar, slide guitar, vocals
STEVE MARRINER – guitar, baritone guitar, harmonica, Hammond organ, vocals
MATT SOBB – drums, cymbals, various percussion

Maybe you heard about them here on WorldofBlues.com first but it won’t be the last you hear of this band, I’m thinking.

Monkey Junk reminds me Marc Broussard from Louisiana. Wish I could sing like that. Here’s a tasty video of Marc just winging it in a record store that just blows me away:

P.S. Thanks for adding Texas Blues Roadhouse to your links. We really appreciate it.

You’re so right. The resemblance between Steve Marriner and Marc Broussard is amazing!
