The Sweet Sound of Mississippi John Hurt
Up early this morning and listening to the sweet sounds of Mississippi John Hurt. He’s not an artist I know a lot about yet. I know in my early years of listening to Doc Watson there was a tribute where he played a Mississippi John Hurt song and introduced it with the line “Mississippi John Hurt could play some fine guitar I’ll tell you that” then there was a “uh huh” confirmation probably from Merle. That’s pretty high praise when you have Doc Watson praising your playing. For now I’ll leave you with this clip blending the blues gospel genres and representative of Mississippi John Hurt’s purity in style and character as I imagine it.
